I do remember back in 1993 when an OVER hyped freshman quarterback from Berwick, PA named Ron Powlus first stepped foot on the Notre Lame campus. Many of the Irish faithful had cemented his legacy without Powlus ever playing a down ! Four years later...he fell flat on his face !
How about the 1987 Heisman Winner, Tim Brown ? NOT ! There is NO WAY he should have EVER won that award in 1987 ! Notre Dame was a very AVERAGE team going 8-3 playing their usual listless schedule. The award that year should have gone to Syracuse quarterback Don MacPherson who guided the Orangeman (as they were known back then) to an undefeated season while setting Syracuse passing records for yards, touchdowns and completion percentage.
Lets delve further into history...Paul Hornung and the 1956 Heisman.....okay, Hornung did lots of things well, running, receiving, kicking and punting....oh, Notre Lame finished 2-8 that year. He did not lead the country in any one of those particular categories....ever hear of a running back named JIM BROWN ????? Nuff said ! Now, Hornung should have won the Heisman for sleeping around with married woman (alleged) and his gambling habits (fact).
Oh yeah...least I forget, I hate Lou Holtz ! Has ANYONE ever seen his "Doctor Lou" segment on ESPN ???? Talk about Notre LAME ! Either become a preacher, minister or rabbi (great, now I'll have the wrath of all my hebrew followers), but stop with the ridiculous PEP talks and incoherent ramblings ! Besides, with that slurred speech impediment, I can't understand a darn thing he says ! I just wish Mark May would pick him up and pile drive him through the floor !
I would pay to see Mark May do that.
